Words from Julie-Anne in relation to psychotherapy practice........In our personal and professional lives, experiences affect us. Our sense of well-being can inspire our curiosity, productivity and creative pursuits. It can contribute to how we live well, while also enrich our relationship with others.
When we reflect on our life experiences, we may ask ourselves what we want out of our life? We may consider different ways of being in relationships with others or uphold our ideals. Such thinking may cause further confusion, doubt and dissatisfaction, which may lead us to seek greater experiences to fulfil our life goals. However, as we seek an authentic sense of our identity, we may also encounter limits to what we can have and do.
During times of change, our agency can be challenged by others ‘as if’ our sense of autonomy was made to be almost impossible to overcome. Sometimes, our experiences are made more difficult when it becomes necessary to let things go. Experiences of loneliness, grief over the loss of someone you loved or feeling isolated, are never easy to work-through on your own.
Psychotherapy is a creative process that allows you the space to explore the things that have affected you. Through this work, you may also discover other ways in which to enjoy life anew. Working with you. Psychotherapy is a talking therapy. By speaking freely about your everyday life experiences, relationships, happenstance events, dreams and wishes, deeper questions about your life, love and beliefs will unfold. Your history tells a story from the time before and after you were born. The pathway of your life experiences, surprises and misfortunes, reveal patterns that have shaped your actions with others. Your mind may affect you as though it has a will of its own, or be more ‘at ease’ and present within you.
By speaking openly, we will work together to enable you to discover what you can make possible in you.

Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis
BA; B.Litt. Hons; MA; PhD (University of Melbourne)
Julie is a psychotherapist who employs a psychoanalytic approach to her work with children and adults. This means paying careful attention to the way a person speaks about their memories, early childhood experiences and day-to-day struggles. By providing the opportunity to speak freely, without self-censorship and without fear of external judgement, Julie focuses on a person’s inner conflicts, as well as sources of distress, anxiety and suffering that may have been buried. In the case of children, observation and careful listening while they play can assist in identifying and resolving personal conflicts and anxieties. Julie’s work is directed toward long-term solutions. It is particularly suited to problems that are recurrent, patterns that seem impossible to change and aspects of our lives that appear to be inexplicable.
Julie is a member of the Australian Centre for Psychoanalysis (ACP) and has completed the Four- Year Program of Theoretical and Clinical Studies in Psychoanalysis and is an active participant in the centre’s activities. She has completed the Mental Health Practitioner Course with PACFA (the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia) and also their training in Practical Ethics for Counsellors and Psychotherapists. She is also a sociologist and author. Her background in sociology ensures that she has an awareness of and a sensitivity to the cultural, social and historical forces that shape our lives.
Julie offers her services at an affordable private fee.

Justine created A Focused Birth because there is nothing else like it available for birth preparation. The increasing rates of birth trauma show how often families are underprepared for what to expect. Justine has combined her broad range of knowledge, skills, expertise and experience into one comprehensive course. It’s for people who need lots of information to feel prepared. The information is evidence based, practical and transformative.
A Focused Birth includes: understanding your body for labour and birth, positive mindset tools, hypnobirthing, working with your body to enhance labour and birth, breastfeeding, understanding newborn needs & crying, settling techniques, parenting and relationship challenges, navigating the hospital policies, procedures and common interventions, birth plans, postpartum expectations, and much more.
A Focused Birth warmly welcomes all family types. The information provided is designed to enhance the birth experience for everyone who is supporting the birthing mother, whether that’s a co parent, partner, family, friend.
